Twitter Suspends Account Of Influencer After Viral Video Of Street Beggar

Popular micro-blogging platform, Twitter has suspended the account of Omotara, a Nigerian social media influencer who was seen in a video making fun of a beggar, Featured24 can confirm.

Omotara was in the video seen making fun of a young street beggar in her car while driving and sipping energy drink.

The video which was originally posted by the influencer on WhatsApp was screen recorded by an unknown person believed to be her friend and uploaded on social media.

The which went viral shortly after it surfaced on social media was received with anger with many criticizing the influencer. The video has been viewed by over 1 million users.

With over a million tweets, the video which is also currently trending on French Twitter shortly after it got their attention caused many French people to expressed anger over the influencer’s actions.

It also prompted several users to report Motara’s account which has over 150,000 followers, for allegedly violating Twitter policies.

Motara’s act, according to findings by this newspaper falls under ‘abuse and harassment’ or ‘respect for other members of the community’ policies by Twitter.

Meanwhile, Omotara’s act in the viral video has led to the loss of her job as a Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Brotherkeeper, an NGO that focus on supporting, Giving and improving the society either by any means available.

The organization in a statement on Sunday said the act goes contrary to what it stands for and believes in.
