Being a movie or TV series person wildly depends on personal preference. Movies are great to watch and enjoy with friends and family and so also are TV series.
We have instances where some stories are created as movies and series. Scooby doo, comes in two as a movie and a series. Sherlock Holmes, shares similar attribute.
What then is fascinating about a series and a movie? If you were given an option between the afore mentioned, would you rather watch the movie or the series. Maybe then you might get an answer.
For movies, you have a full plot, it is straight forward and unlike the series, you don’t have to keep going from one episode to another.
Movies are a great way to unwind stress, because it has a stipulated duration. You can go back and forth and still get the gist of the movie. There are a whole lots of great movies to choose from. Certain characteristics influence our choices.
It would interest you to know that there are twelve (12) genres of movies to select from.
The main one you hear people always referring to ACTION movies. The one that creates an atmosphere of laughter COMEDY.
Then we talk about those movies that gives the butterfly feeling and the awww’s I’m talking about ROMANTIC movies. A combination of both comedy and romance gives you ROMCOM. Another genre is that of ADVENTURE. Have you seen movies where almost every action is followed by a song? MUSICALS. Moving forward we have DRAMA, HISTORICAL MOVIES , WAR movies, HORROR movies, the most frequently produced now, SCI-FI movies. These are movies with scientific backing based on fictions.
Lastly, we have REAL LIFE movies.
In deciding which movie suits you, the genre can you give an insight to your favourite.
For TV series, character development takes longer, and it requires the full attention of one to understand and get the full gist. I remember when the talk of the town was about GOT. I was a late bloomer on the series.
I had to invest quality time to watch the series from the first episode to get abreast with the full plot. Sincerely, I skipped few scenes and when I did, I had to go back to rewatch them because every bit was important to understand the entire series.
Game of Throne had a huge followership and buzz. People where ready to invest their time just to see this great story. I believe ultimately that people just go for what they find interesting and worthwhile.
I also feel along the line, TV series become personal to the viewers, you see people express love and support for a particular character, form games and prediction polls for possible outcomes of the series. This is one the interesting aspect of TV series. The suspense, building thrills and excitement.
Unfortunately, it is usually a buzz kill when it doesn’t fulfill the expectations of the viewers.
For personal reasons, some people will prefer quick, fast and beautiful stories, while others would want long and exciting storylines where they can predict, get lost in a different world while fantasizing about the characters.
Movie people would prefer a complete story, a one piece work of art. A series person wants the fun. Break it down, let me find it, slow and steady. The more episode it has the more intriguing it is for me.
Some movie people don’t like the element of surprise, which most times the tool of a TV series. Sometimes a sub plot is included, new characters are also introduced.
Movie people are exposed to a variety. As a movie person, you can spend little time watching different genres. For example, you could watch A Historical movie for about an hour, after which you can see a Romantic movie for another hour. But the series will require your focus for much longer.
Conclusion
Having a favourite is sometimes difficult. Most people are on the fence on this one. Lovers of both movies and TV series. I can say, I am guilty. I enjoy both content that not withstanding, there are loyalist, who stand their grounds on a particular preference. The essence of both creation is to entertain and showcase art. Choose yours and enjoy the flow.
